[NJARC] Black Beauties

Marv has an interesting article in this month's 'Broadcaster' about black beauty capacitors.  I seem to recall seeing a color code chart for resistors and capacitors which refered to the 'bumble bee' type with colored stripes as 'military types'.  Were these widely used by the military?
By the way, the ebay listing that started this discussion was for two 'bumble bee' caps that went for over $100!  Nick Senker
