Well, Bill, the hamfests are still very good. I didn't attend 20 years ago,
however, so I don't have the same frame of reference as a lot of the other
guys. (I do, however, remember those antique radio shows in Livingston in
the late 1970s).
My favorite New Jersey hamfest is at the Sussex County Fairgrounds. A ton
of dealers. Lots of neat stuff. If I only had unlimited funds, I could have
bought at least a dozen very nice sets at that hamfest last summer. I'm
still kicking myself for the beautiful Hammarlund HQ-120 that I passed up.
(If the seller reads, this please contact me. LOL).
The BARA hamfest in Bergen County is excellent, as long as the weather is
good. There are a couple in Bucks County, Pa., that are very good, too. The
early-morning drive through Bucks County is well worth it. Gorgeous
country. The MCRA show in Pa. is also a lot of fun.
The prices range from very reasonable to you gotta be kidding. So does the
quality. However, I always see something that I've never seen before. I
usually find a treasure or two to drag home. (My basement is full of
treasures that I've dragged home).
My kids (16, 12 and 8) like to tag along. There are usually some
computer-related items that interest them. Since I'm getting the kids out
of my wife's hair, she gives her blessing.
