Hi Lenny
What you have probably contains wires of different colors. Likely  blue red 
and silver. the colors are an enamel coating. you need to scrape the color away 
using fine sandpaper. After you clean it you can then tin the wire with 
solder. the insulating fibers will burn away during the process. It is a a little 
tricky, but a repair can be made.
