It is a strange phenomenon with the audiophiles, the leakiest of capacitors
seem to be the most desirable, they claim the sound "warmer", then again,
anything that out of spec will sound "warm". I rebuilt a wire recorder about a year
ago for a gentelmen in california. The unit was sent in with complaints of
"smoke" . I replaced all of the wax capacitors (good alls I believe) including
one that was shorted and burnt. The unit worked beautifully, I sent it back to
the gentelman, Though he was happy with the work, he claimed the rebuild had
ruined the "warm" sound of his recorder, and that it sounded just too good!
Amazing how awful new , accurate capacitors sound!
