Nick -
Thanks for the heads up. I actually got the idea from an
article from "Antique Radio Classified" from about a year or so ago. There
was a math formula to determine what would be the value in Mfd's based on
the actual filament string (voltage and current). When I crunched the math,
it never was correct. A.R.C. did confirm that the formula was incorrect but
was never mentioned in later issues. Ultimately, I tried values that I knew
were close and tried measuring the voltage as I used a variac. This is a
Majestic model 50 I picked up at the first "Franke" auction. After a
re-capping the radio played well, but I wasn't impressed with the amount of
heat generated by the ballast tube. Also, the pilot light happens to be in
the string as well as the tubes so that went into the mix as well. I'm
fortunate to live only 10 minutes from Greenbrook Electronics but they only
carry non electrolytics up to 150WV. Thus, this is why I asked John R. for
help. I'll find them. I'll check out the link.
