I found the 'case histories' of Clinic repairs in the Broadcaster very interesting. We should publish more repair examples of this kind after the the next clinic for the benifit of members, after all this is supposed to be a learning experience.
My own experience was with a 1940 Stewart Warner 'table radio' (a set concealed in an end table). It needed a power cord (these are in great demand at the clinic - bring some along next time) and one tube which was missing. After attending to these faults and cleaning some dirt out of the chassis, I applied power through a 40 watt light bulb. All was wll so I increased the wattage to 100 W, and actually started to receive some stations. Finally I applied full power and was tuning some stations after about 10 min when the electrolytics went up in smoke! It was a graphic example of what radio repairmen have to deal with and a real life demo. Fortunately no damage was done. I took the set home - to be continued. Nick Senker
