Yep, still there. I've been dealing with him since
the 1950's. Used to take my bike there when I lived
in Cranford. Now that I'm in NE PA, I don't get
there nearly as often.
Little history. Joe started the business with
another guy, Jack, after the war. In the late 50's,
I think, Joe bought out Jack and ran the business
himself. Later on, Joe's brother, Vic, came in with
him. Vic wanted his own business so eventually he
left and started Interstate Electronics in Hazlet.
They still work together on purchasing and
inventory. I seem to remember Vic also buying a
radio station in Hazlet as well as the strip mall
where IEI is located.=20
Joe still has tubes although the popular types like
6L6's, 12AX7's, etc are long gone. I think I
cleaned him out of the 12-volt heater/plate tubes
last year. There are still forgotten stashes of
tubes and other stuff, buried under other old stuff,
where I sometimes find what I'm looking for. Don't
go looking for Orange Drops (r) or 455 Kc IF cans,
though. I bought him out of them some years ago!
