[NJARC] Armored Chassis?

  I was leafing through a Metropolitan Opera performance booklet for the week of Feb 1931 and found an advertisement for a Brunswick model 22. View ad at this link;

  The ad states "It is equipped with Armored Chassis,...". Begging the obvious question - what is an 'Armored Chassis'? Were radio chassis less than durable prior to this marketing/manufacturing discovery? Were they using up post WW I scrap?? Anticipating a new war???
