I think Goo Gone is safe for Bakelite but I severely damaged a white  plastic 
case with it once. Melted the surface of what I guess was polystyrene.  Test 
it on a hidden surface first!
 
One of my favorite electronics cleaners is Deoxit of all things. I've  
scratched otherwise glossy Bakelite with paper towels, so I never use them on  
plastic any more. Cotton and terry cloth are much gentler
