When I look at the Philco service info for your set, the model M9 is 
given as the proper phonograph.  This is for 78's only.  When I look at 
the service data for the M9, it is listed as being used in 1948 models. 
  The service data is probably from 1948.

But then there is the M9C and according to it's data, was used in 1949 
models.  This had two arms, one for 78's and one for 33 1/3.

Therefore, I cannot answer your question properly.  Maybe both versions 
were used in your console.
