Hi Steve and the group,

A new rig must be treated like a first date.  You must proceed slowly and
gently, so that you can come to know her and love her.  A damp rag, a Q-tip
are appropriate.  If you encounter reluctance, try alcohol.   Isopropyl
alcohol dries out moldy cloth wiring and cuts some greasy residues.  At
least I have had good luck with it. 

Whatever you do, don't start by pulling out your hose.
