Greetings,
Jerry and Walter made some good comments about intent to run for office
and reviewing the club charter. Perhaps the charter can be copied to
this reflector and published in the Jersey Broadcaster for comment?
Those interested in updating it can form a committee. Same thing should
apply for nominations for NJARC officers. Those interested can form a
nomination committee, do some discrete inquiries and make the nominations
at a club meeting.
The view from here is that the club is very healthy. Events like meets,
library displays and repair clinics are scheduled and more importantly,
take place. The membership continues to hover in the mid 200s. Trust
me, a lot of radio clubs across this country would love to have half of
what we take for granted. I think Tony would be very proud of how far
the club has come since he started it. I know I am. Your executive
board deserves a lot of credit for their efforts in running the club and
keeping it such good shape. Credit also goes to Marv for his wonderful
articles and reports in the Jersey Broadcaster. I read every one as soon
as it comes in, cover to cover!
>From my experience in NJARC, it is difficult at best to lead the club in
the direction the majority wants to go in. For instance, everyone wants
a swap meet but the same dedicated people always seem to run the event
and they use the "tried and true" formula. Those who want to try new
things can bring the idea before the membership for a vote. But they
should also take responsibility for that idea and see it through, not
pawn it off on someone who has nothing invested in it.
Two quotes come to mind. The first is from Mark Twain who said: "Do the
right thing! It will impress your friends and amaze everyone else"! The
other is from Eldridge Cleaver: Either you are part of the solution or
you are part of the problem! Hopefully both quotes are accurate!
Ranting from a safe distance (1400 miles) in Arkansas,
Jim
