[NJARC] an idea to increase membership

To All,
  It's great to see all this activity on the reflector concerning
ways to improve the club activities. But when it comes down to
following through, we need more volunteers. As the repair clinics
get more popular, we need more experts to assist the other club members.
Right now the experts are stretched to the limit. Now if you try to run
'tracks' or parallel activities or classes, we need even more experts.
We are also running other activities during the clinic which takes
more volunteers.=20
    Right now the club has tech talks almost every month
on a radio or related topic. In the past we have covered many radio =
circuit=20
types and they are in the video tape library. Al Klase is always looking =
for=20
topics for new tech talks so we will continue to provide what is of =
interest
to the club members. Providing articles for the monthly newsletter is =
another
great way to cover interesting topics.
   Regarding having regular tailgates at Englishtown or Infoage, we need =
a
committee to work this.
   Regarding the swapmeet advertising issues, a couple of meetings ago I =
asked
for a volunteer to work advertising for the club. There were no takers.
If there is one simple way to increase the membership, it is to get more =
people to
our events through advertising.=20
   So I applaud the ideas expressed here but lets remember they have to =
co-exist=20
and fit in with the other programs the club is running.  =20

I would like to put my two cent in eventho I'll haven't been too active =
with
the club this last year or so due to my work hours and other associated
reasons with work (sorry Richard, I haven't been able to made the =
meetings).
The only time I get to see the group nowadays is at Infoage outings. I =
been
meaning to present a suggestion and since Thomas brought the subject up =

would like throw out an idea and expand on what Thomas has indicated =
below.

The club has a lot of experience and knowledge and maybe we should pass =
some
of this on to other members (old as well as new). With this I am =
proposing
that we pass this on in two ways. First, at the regular meetings (each =
one)
have a 15 or 30 minute technical session where someone actually analyzes =
a
given section of a circuit and explains what is happening (just a piece =
mind
you that would fit in the time slot, i.e. a tank, regen, antenna, etc).
Basically the fundamentals and the different type we will encounter =
(also
maybe how to recognize what it what). This could also include the =
enclosures
and cabinetry items.

Second, the repair clinic. Anyone who has dealt with the technical  and
professional world goes to trade shows and at this shows have =
encountered
'tracks'. Essentially these are seminars and training sessions. With =
this
mind, maybe we should setup actual training during each repair session =
(in
parallel with the actual repair clinics) with tracks on radio circuits,
Cabinetry repair, and other radio related subjects. Even Radio/Broadcast
history which may tie us in more with Infoage and Sarnoff participation =
&
support. Have these clinics one a quarter.

I think these sessions would really help the new as well as the old to
better understand the richness of the radio collecting hobby and maybe
mitigate some frustrations (if there are any).

I also would like to add to anyone that is listening out there but are =
not a
member of the NJARC or don't attend the meetings, that the club is made =
up
of a great group of people and I do miss some of Al's presentation at =
the
meetings as well as the rest of the knowledge that is spread.
