Hi Grant.
 The lack of both height and width would indicate low B+. (not HV) This could 
also have an effect on the picture  quality. Check to see if the rectifier is 
weak. Some early sets used 2 rectifier tubes, usually 5U4s. IF the set uses 
seleniums, they also would be suspect. If this thing uses a voltage doubler 
circiut, make sure those caps also are ok.
