Southern NV District EC Report for February 2004
Section Traffic Manager, Matt N7TOD has been
unavailable for the past few weeks with a new job. We
have suspended the effort to have a "noon" time NTS
net. Traffic is still being handled by traditional NTS
nets and via the HF/VHF packet networks.
Much effort was spent on putting together a Section
wide SKYWARN net on the Echolink conference node
NV-GATE. A couple of times last month the conference
node was tested between Las Vegas and Elko, NV. Dave
W7GK, Kent W7AOR, Don KQ6FM, Doug KA7FOO and myself
had either used the IRLP Western Reflector Channel 7
(9257) or the Echolink conference node NV-GATE
(152566) to establish communications. We are looking
to have a weekly SKYWARN net on the NV-GATE conference
node on Wednesday nights at 1900 local time.
San Bernardino Co. ECS/RACES was activated again in
response to the series of Pacific storms crossing the
area. Las Vegas Regional SKYWARN was put on standby to
relay rainfall reports from the County. Rainfall
intensity reports from Twenty-nine Palms, CA were
forwarded to the Las Vegas NWS forecast office.
Echolink was used to communicate with Clark County
ARES/RACES member Ken Johnson W7BES in Pasadena, CA
for storm report updates.
Clark County EC, Charlie AA5QJ reported 15 Clark
County ARES/RACES members attended an all day Red
Cross Communications Volunteer Orientation class on
Saturday, February 21 at the local Chapter office.
