<< You can monitor some of the shuttle recovery activity by listening to
the Nacogdoches W5NAC repeater on Echolink (146.66, I believe).

The group is using the "WX_TALK" conference, but they request that
monitoring stations do NOT connect to that conference. Instead, connect to
the "EDU_NET" conference, set up for listening only. I believe the N2LEN
repeater conference is also set up for monitoring.

Monday night I've heard that Amateurs are being sent out with as many
search teams as possible (NASA, FBI, etc). Amateur communications are
working better than all others. Some donated repeaters are being brought
in to supplement the existing machines, but they need some temporary tower
 structures.

Today's crew was about 14 hams. They are talking about needing 25 or more
hams daily for the next two weeks.

Hams in Houston and Dallas are using Echolink to talk to the command center
in Nacogdoches to coordinate recruiting hams.

If you don't have Echolink, you can download it for Windows at:

Yes the N2LEN server is included as one that is connected to WX_TALK along
with the EDU_NET server. It is requested that you monitor ONLY...no
transmitting while on these servers while their Shuttle Recovery Net is in
progress.

This activity can also be monitored in Northeast NC on 146.590 and soon
440.850.This station covers the northern Outer Banks,Chesapeake
Va,,Gatesville,Columbia on VHF.
Predicted coverage on UHF will be 15 to 20 miles at best.
The KC4QLP-L is in monitor mode only during this time except from 9pm til
midnight as this station takes part in many of the daily nets.Area hams are
encouraged to take part in that activity.
For a schedule of nets and other Echolink info..visit
