>From the ham club meeting yesterday and for those who were interested in
learning or improving your Mores code, here is a link to some info from the
ARRL. There is link to the KOCH trainer program that I mentioned. There
are also similar programs for Android and other OS platforms. I have one
on my tablet just incase I get the bug to work on CW while not near my
laptop.

There are many opinions and studies on how to best learn and relate Morse
code to real words; 5 letter cypher groups, Farnsworth, and KOCH to name a
few. This article, of course, has opinions.
For me, I'm running the KOCH program with letters coming out at 25WPM and
the spacing at 15wpm. This gives my rusty brain a chance to identify the
letters before the next one comes through. The KOCH program from G4FON
also allows for variable "band conditions" and other variables you are
likely to encounter on the air.

I think that no matter how you manage to learn the code getting on the air
is a real eye opener. I tend to listen mostly and am amazed and the
variation and quality of CW signals and spelling/ abbreviations that are
out there.

Personally, I don't plan on spending almost as much for a key as I spent on
the radio.... to me that seems a bit over the top. Someone else's opinion
may be quite different...... Many of the really expensive keys can be
found on e-bay and swap lists for a lot less than their original price....
it pays to check around.
