TJ and myself have installed the battery backup and protection circuitry on
the 450 repeater.
Basically, if the AC power fails everything on Horsetooth mountain will
quit operating except the 450 repeater.
If just the Samlux power supply fails only the 450 repeater will be
affected:
IN EITHER CASE: the 100 watt amp will drop out of circuit and the 12 volt
backup batteries will power the 450 repeater (barefoot) and also the
controller.
If the AC power is off long enough and there is heavy usage of the 450
repeater and the battery discharges to about 11 volts then the repeater
will shut off,
never to come on again until AC power is restored. This action protects
the battery from being damaged.
I would ask the folks who tend to use this repeater for rag chewing, that
in times of natural disasters such as fires and heavy snow storms to please
take this
factor into consideration: if there is a power failure the repeater needs
to be used for pertinent and emergency traffic only.
