NCARC Field Day 2010:

Signs of summer are everywhere, and that can only mean one thing: time to
start getting ready for ARRL Field Day on June 26—27th!

For those new to Amateur Radio, Field Day (and night) is a chance to test
your equipment in emergency operating conditions as participants compete to
make the most contacts in a 24 hour period.

For those who prefer an outdoor Field Day with temporary (read that as
improvised) setups, LRA member Brian Wood WØDZ of the Valley Ham Shack store
is making the site adjacent to the store available for a group of intrepid
hams. This group will operate without relying on permanent installations,
structures, and commercial power. Usually this resembles camping out with
tents, RVs, and generators. It’s also a perfect time of year to enjoy the
great outdoors. The antennas also cannot be permanently erected or attached
to any permanent structure and thus utilize temporary towers, poles, and
trees.

This involves the most setup effort. For new hams without an HF station, or
for those with antenna limitations, come and experiment with HF operation.
If you know of young people who have an interest in ham radio, the
competition during this event draws them in. If you’re a more experienced
ham radio enthusiast, CW operators are always in high demand, but all
operators are welcome. Satellite equipment and operators would also be
greatly appreciated.

Although some organizers are LRA or NCARC members, this group does not
utilize LRA or NCARC equipment or funds, so participants planning on having
their meals at the site voluntarily contribute $20 toward food and expenses.
This can be waived in case of hardship, as we don’t want anyone to miss this
event!

We would really appreciate volunteers in the following categories:

Site, equipment, and antenna preparation (Friday afternoon June 25th)

Site, equipment, and antenna setup, part II (Saturday morning June 26th)

Food committee

Operating (set your own hours anytime between Saturday at noon and the next
day at noon)

Site, equipment, and antenna dismantling and storage (Sunday afternoon June
27th)

To join the fun, please RSVP by calling or dropping by the Valley Ham Shack
Store at 4321 W. Eisenhower, Loveland, CO 970-667-2254, or contact:
