Well, this is really short notice but this weekend the EOSS ( eoss.org ) is
launching a balloon out of Crow Creek campground near Briggsdale in
conjunction with a a scouting event there.
If you can make it there you can mix it all up, Scouting, Ham radio and
science. The only problem is would be that the launch is not to long
after sunrise although the event will last for at least two hours after
launch.
Even if you can only get a couple of the boys (and their parents) out there
I'm sure all will have a great time.

Subject: [NCARC] Scouts doing the radio merit badge
Fellow radio buffs,
I am doing the radio merit badge with Fort Collins scout troup 482. It is a
small group of 5-9 scouts plus leaders.
The merit badge requires that each scout "7a2. Carry on a 10 minute real or
simulated radio contact using voice or Morse Code; use proper call signs, Q
signals, and abbreviations. Properly log the real or simulated ham radio
contact and record the signal report." and to "8. Visit a radio installation
approved in advance by your counselor..."
We are looking for one or more ham operators around Fort Collins who would
allow us to come to their shack and make some contacts.
Optimal would be the evening of October 18th. This is the weekend of the
Jamboree on the Air (JOTA).
I currently only have mobile equipment and would like to create an
experience for these young men that will generate some excitement and a
future ham or two.
Does anyone know of any JOTA activities?
73s,
WA7NZE
John
