QST to all hams in Northern Colorado
JOTA, or Jamboree on the Air is coming up again on Saturday October 15th.
JOTA is an annual event in which about 500,000 Scouts and Guides all over
the world make contact with each other by means of amateur radio. This is a
great opportunity to get new folks interested in ham radio and to have fun
showing off different amateur radio operating modes.
See http://www.scout.org/wse/jota.shtml
NCARC is planning on demonstrating ham radio to some very interested Cub
Scouts and Boy Scouts at Swift Ponds (just east of I25 between the Harmony
and Windsor exits). The event will be from approximately 5-7 pm.
We need a minimum of 3 more volunteers as well as some additional equipment.
We're in need of some additional volunteers to do demonstrations of
differing operating modes (HF, HT to local repeater, transmitter hunts, any
digital modes) and someone who can bring a tower for 20 meters... similar to
a field day setup so that we can find some interesting HF contacts for the
kids.
Rob Howell, KI0IO, will be coordinating the event and helping to run an HF
station.
Here are the particulars:
When : Saturday October 15th 5-7 pm+ (you can stay longer if you want to
have fun with radio contacts)
Plan on arriving earlier for setup so we can start at 5. Rob and I will
be there at around 4:30 pm
Where : Swift Ponds (just east of I25 between Harmony and Windsor exits).
This is a private camping area for scouts-- I gather there is a key on a
tree near the entrance gate-- but we won't have to worry about this as there
will be lots of people there already:
On Harmony Road headed east- cross over I25
Take frontage road on east side of I25 headed south
Go to top of first overpass and turn left
Go a few hundred feet--- gate on right (south)
Coordinates approximately 40.408N 104.989W
I drove by there this afternoon--- very beautiful place with several
small ponds
Contact : KI0IO, Rob Howell at 970-532-1339 and/or ki0io at msn.com or contact
us on this reflector
Overall contact person: Wendy Story, Cell: 402-7777
Who : Approximately 50 Cub Scouts from a Pack in Windsor
HF and Repeater demos
