NCARC club meeting reminder:
Saturday November 19th
Breakfast: 8:00 am
Club meeting starts: 9:00 am (we have elections this month)
Presentation/discussion: approximately 9:30 am
We have a transmitter hunting (a.k.a fox hunting) expert coming to our club
meeting this coming Saturday. His name is Larry Benko, W0QE. This last
summer Larry participated in the U.S. Amateur Radio Directional Finding
National Championships in New Mexico. Larry will be presenting some of
the concepts about transmitter hunting / radio direction finding after the
business portion of our club meeting (approximately 9:30 am). There are
some significant improvements and modifications that make direction finding
a lot more accurate that Larry will cover, such as off-frequency tuning.
This is a repeat of the well-received workshop he conducted at the NCARC
fest in September. Depending upon interest we will have some practice
transmitter hunting after the club meeting (approximately 10:00 am).
Please bring your HT with charged batteries and any DF/transmitter hunting
equipment you might have, especially attenuators.
These techniques are of great help when tracking down interference, also.
In his workshop-Larry will cover the basics and then also describe some of
the fascinating aspects of rapid RF directional finding where hams actually
need as much orienteering experience as ham experience, and need to be in
great shape also (most of the direction finding is done while you are at a
run.
Hope to see you there!
