Hi,
At the last Greene County ARES meeting, I proposed a quarterly exercise to
get more people involved in regular EmComm activities. Here is my proposal:
April - NVIS Day
July - Mesh
October - Simulated Emergency Test (SET)
January - Digital Modes/Winlink
As you can see, I hope to stage a mesh event this summer sometime in July.
These are meant to be EmComm training, but also social events where we get
together and have lunch and play around on the radio/mesh. I have several
mesh ideas for events but welcome any other inputs.
1. Set up a grid of mesh cameras and view at a central site. This would be
practice for eventually helping out with events such as the Popcorn
Festival where video would be helpful to scan the site for issues.
2. Set up a grid of mesh phones and test out calling (maybe set up a
special set of phone numbers for various served agencies that could be used
in an emergency situation where phones are brought in).
3. Prepare a set of mesh nodes with Winlink capability and allow people to
send Health and Welfare messages out of the disaster area. This might be
very useful for people in a local disaster area who want to contact
relatives to assure them that they are safe.
Just some ideas. Let me know if you have any other ideas or if this is
something you would like to participate in. Maybe we can also discuss this
during the Wednesday TeamTalk meeting or the next Saturday Mesh Meeting.
Thanks!
