Simpsons - Xwarn
Following up on JJ and Moes emails...
Late last fall I replaced the POE & RJ45 connector, the original POE
device had corrosion on its ethernet jack and so did the RJ-45 connector
on the ethernet cable plugging into it. After replacement... it worked
reliably for about a week then started going intermittant.
Moving on to this past Friday, these recently replaced POE and RJ45
connector iyems were much worse this second time around... only being in
service for about 5 months.
After I was was handed the replaced devices... I took apart the Bullet
and it was completely factory looking, no signs of water
intrusion/corrosion inside on the circuit board. The N connector was
great and so were the ethernet jack and RJ45 plug; looks as fresh as the
day it was installed - I think that was about 3 years ago. The entire
issue was at the base of the tower... in a metal box (large
electrical-junction type enclosure) mounted at the base of the tower
where the ethernet cab;le ran in to, and the POE was located inside this
box as well
We all know that the door on this metal box does not seal well, and
there's some holes in it. There is a good chance that water came in at
the box location (and not up top on the tower where the L-Com and Bullet
were). I try to always have a drip loop on any cables before they enter
a box or building; but I dont' know if I managed to do this at Simpsons
location initially. And, last fall when I attempted to repair it... I
may have not remembered to leave a drip loop there again. There's a good
chance that water followed along the outside of the ethernet cable and
flowed into this metal junction box... playing havoc with everything in
there.
