* Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for...
Northern New Castle County in northern Delaware...
Central Chester County in southeastern Pennsylvania...
Delaware County in southeastern Pennsylvania...
* Until 1030 PM EDT.
* At 620 PM EDT, moderate rain continues across the area early this
evening. Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated 1 to 2
inches of rain has fallen since this morning across portions of
Chester County and western Delaware County in far southeastern
Pennsylvania and in northern New Castle County, Delaware. Isolated
heavier rainfall amounts to 3 inches have fallen in the area
between Coatesville, Kennett Square, West Chester, and Thornbury.
* This amount of rainfall will continue to cause urban and small
stream flooding. Poor drainage flooding was reported by the public
between 530 and 600 PM on Thornton Road and Cheyney Road in
Thornbury Township.
* Some locations that could experience flooding include...
Wilmington, West Chester, Chester, Coatesville, Westtown,
Downingtown, Swarthmore, Kennett Square, Parkesburg, West Grove,
Honey Brook, Arden, Cheyney, Talleyville, Elam, Marshallton,
Chelsea, Gradyville, Greenville and Chester Township.
Additional rainfall under 0.5 inch can be expected in eastern
Chester and in Delaware Counties, which is just north and east of
where the heaviest rain has already fallen. With rainfall rates
generally under one-half inch per hour, flash flooding is not
expected to develop.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as
well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.
Stay away or be swept away. River banks and culverts can become
unstable and unsafe.
