Subject: SKYWARN Recognition Day - Update #5
Ladies and Gentlemen...
Here's a quick message on SKYWARN Recognition Day
which will occur on December 7, 2002, from 0000 to 2400
UTC.
There are currently 96 stations registered to participate.
Further, I've received "verbal commitments" from
stations at San Juan, Cleveland, and Midland to participate.
Those sites will bring the total number to 99. Great!
The digital community has spoken. The digital/CW endorsement
has been reinstated. Since digital modes are crucial to SKYWARN
operations, I've become convinced to keep the endorsement.
If a ham works just one NWS station using either CW or a
digital mode, the endorsement will be earned.
The web site (hamradio.noaa.gov) was modified recently.
It provides instructions to operators about how to earn
the Pearl Harbor Day endorsement and also provides
general operating instructions. If you want to something
on the site, please contact Larry Boyd ([email protected]).
This is a reminder to those offices that are located on airport
grounds - don't forget to inform the airport manager about
what is to take place on 12/7/02. You need to do this by
12/1/02.
If your office is going to utilize IRLP, please drop me a
quick email stating that. I want to compile a list of
NWS/IRLP stations for the web site. I know Wakefield and
Honolulu will utilize IRLP - anyone else?
Thanks for all your support. Unless something drastic happens,
the next SRD update will be on 11/25/02.
