Well, the ability to glue stuff together does make it a lot easier for more people to get involved and get stuff done. And it's not all Lego engineering: Free professional-grade CAD software and easy access to inexpensive, quick turn, multi-layer PCB fabrication also really makes it easier to do more advanced stuff than ever before, assuming the creator has the gumption to ding in deeply enough.
