Hi Rich - Well the RCA tube manual says to run the 1L6 filament at 1.4
volts. The GRC-109 manual shows 1.35V +/- 100 mV as a performance test
spec.
I've run this one for 30+ years at 1.4 volts, no problems but it's not on
24/7 either. It sees maybe 30-40 hours per year...
I forget the dropping resistor circuit ID number but check the manual. In
the small PP-2685 power supply the wirewound tapped adjustment resistor is
under the little "box" on the PS front panel...you don't need to
disassemble the PS...(It's internal to the big PP-2684 supply).
I never found the issued headphones so I just use some old HiZ types (or a
small external amplified speaker ala Radio Shack) with a HiZ input.
Phil at Fair Radio told me they sold "hundreds" of GRC-109 sets when
Tobyhanna Depot excessed them circa 1984. Where did they all go??
