I've experimented with modifying a cheap imported solid state inverter to output 800 Hz power instead of 60 Hz, but haven't gotten usable results yet.

Proper aircraft bench test supply gear would be great! But I haven't found any at cheapskate ham pricing yet, which is why I'm considering wacky and probably ill-advised things like making my own inverter, or hacking something like a cheap VFD. I have a single-phase 600VA 60Hz to 400Hz motor-generator that Dennis gave me for the low, low price of "somebody pick it up fast, before the trash truck arrives" :) but nothing for a big 3-phase load like my 618T-2 yet.
