Good afternoon. I am a member of the MVCC and am excited by the idea of the MRCG participating at Tower Park. I offer some possible pertinent data. At Tower Park, the most common vehicle is the jeep and jeep owners often add a period radio set to their vehicle as an accessory but have no idea how to either make it function or use it in communication. The MRCG is adept at both and a perfect fit for these enthusiasts. I believe that pre-advertisement of an on site location for the MRCG to show interested MVCC members how to power up these jeep radio sets and make them communicate should interest a number of MVCC members and expand the MRCG radio net. For MRCG preparation purposes. The most common ww2 jeep radio is the SCR-610. The most common M-series or 1950-1960s jeep ratio is the VRC-10. And finally the most common 1970-1980s jeep radio is the VRC-53. I hope that this idea will bear fruit for both the MVCC and the MRCG. Sincerely yours, Chuck Heindell.

I would be interested, in the past I have worked some of the guys at the Tower Park Meet from home and on one occasion actually went out to Tower Park and operated out in the field with a GRC-9 set.
I would suggest that if a group plans to operate from Tower Park that they make a schedule known prior to the event that has times, frequencies and modes and stick to it. In the past I found that they were on the air and that I could have worked them but did not know the schedule.
If there is to be an operating event at Tower Park then it is advantageous to scout locations PRIOR to the event so those that participate can be given an address/location that can be found on a map or with GPS. In the one event that I participated I had to find my own location which took quite a bit of time. The meet we just had at Paso Robles I had a number of locations scouted and was able to provide that information, that saved a lot of time and hassle.
Another thing that might be considered is Single Side Band operation, there is a Military Radio Net at 8 PM on Wednesday nights on 3.996 MHz USB. Some modern Military Radios will not do LSB. Chuck N7UVZ was able to check into that net from Los Banos on a military portable dipole he set up in a park and using a low power military packset. Last year at the MRCG Meet at Camp San Luis I checked into the Friday night 8 PM Collins Collectors net with a similar setup and a PRC-515.

John Neuenburg (Military Vehicle Collectors of California), http://mvccnews.net/ has again invited us to participate in their upcoming military vehicle events: John said:
"It would be nice if you could do one of your [Mil Radio] events at the same place as one of the big military vehicle swap meets. We are going back to two events per year at Tower Park. One nice thing about Tower Park, besides the restaurant now being open for breakfast lunch and dinner, is the flat terrain in the delta would make for some interesting radio work.
For example you could have somebody drive until they cannot be received.
Pure distance performance, not subject to hills or even trees. That's an FM exercise, right?
I still think your hobby will grow if you have regular activities at our events. As you know there are a lot of radios attached to vehicles.

Hi John - I am passing this along to the West Coast Military Radio Collectors Group (http://www.mrcgwest.org) crew. (A loose association of loose cats, bad backs, hoarders, grumpy old men and some really accomplished military historians; even some mil vehicle owners......)
As you know, I have set up functioning displays at many of the Spring and Fall MVCC events in the past. Unfortunately I was unable to gain much traction with the radio guys for various reasons. An exception was the inclusion of Paul's major SCR-499+ setup at the MVPA National rally at the Pleasanton Fairgrounds in 2016 - that was great! A patch of grass under some trees was all it took...

I agree - this continues to be a really good synergy opportunity. Our east coast cousins (MRCA) does joint mil radio comms events with their mil vehicle brothers at numerous events back there - with pretty good participation.
Now that MVCC is moving back to Camp Delta (https://towerparkresort.com/) in Lodi for Sept and forward we have been socializing the discussion to "trying again". Logistics/transport up I-5 makes it accessible to our southern/northern kin.. Dry camping is/has been great for a field setup, minimal footprint, and there are plenty of accommodations in nearby Lodi for those needing a piece of chocolate in their pillows..;o)
MRCG guys: - Any interest in considering trying a joint Op with the MVCC guys this September (18-23)? Or next April?
Personally I thought that the Estrella Warbirds museum venue of last weeks Annual Muster was better than Camp SLO for several reasons, so maybe we try something different yet, or possibly a second event with the MVCC crew.
There are military vehicles bolted to many military radios at these events! Thoughts?
Tim
