The MRCG 2018 Radio Exercise went very well, we had 6 people who
participated, Mark NF6X, Peter WB6NGK, Craig N6CAV, John WB6AZP, Ed KG6UTS
and my self W6TOM who was Net Control. All these stations operated HF on
3885 AM.

NF6X with a modern park set was at Barney Schwartz park, WB6NGK with a
modern pack set was at Cuesta College, N6CAV using the GRC-9 in his jeep was
at Sherwood Park, WB6AZP used a BC-1306 at Lowes parking lot, KG6UTS set up
his TCS set at the Museum Parking lot.

I used the Museum's tunable vertical antenna and a Collins designed PRC-515
Pack set, which worked very well. Just prior to start of the exercise I
worked a station on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State on LSB on
3865.

All were able to work Net Control on HF and we were able to all work each
other with the exception of KG6UTS who could not copy N6CAV.

Operation was also attempted by the 3 who had equipment, on 6 meter FM, 51
MHz, the antenna for Net Control was a lash up that did not load well. Mark
NF6X was able to work Net Control but Peter WB6NGK was not able to work
either Net Control or NF6X.

Many thanks to all who participated and also MANY THANKS TO RON BROOKS
W6QUI!!!

Ron made the Museum's Amateur Radio Station and Radio Shop available for the
exercise including being there the day before so equipment to be set up and
tested.

Tom Murphy, W6TOM
