That's a good point! Luckily, fldigi does have a CR-CR-LF mode setting to give mechanical carriages time to return. It shouldn't matter much when typing "live" if the sender is on a mechanical TTY, since they'll probably wait long enough for their own carriage to return anyway. The extra CR padding will make a difference when sending a tape or blasting out buffered text from a modern computer, though.
