[MRCG] August 17 MRCG mini-meet at Fort McArthur - heliographs?

I'm sorry to hear of Bart's passing.

I'll see if I can come by Saturday - I've never been to Fort MacArthur, so that is added incentive.

Where do we park - as for the museum?

Where do we congregate? By the Korean Bell? The batteries?

Given Bart's name as a clue, I see a discussion of his demonstrations here:
http://dir.groups.yahoo.com/group/CoastDefense/message/3189

The thread said that MRCG member Mr. DuVall was also involved in the demos, as
well as William Donzelli - are they likely to be present?

Bart brought a British Mance heliograph and had detailed information
regarding the US Army Arizona heliograph network operations during the
Apache wars. The Mance was part of his demonstration at Fort Mac Arthur with
message traffic being passed from Long Beach harbor to Palos Verdes then the
Fort via heliograph....really cool operation.

Richard,

One of our former participants, Bart Rowlett, W6HQK, was a heliograph
collector and enthusiast but unfortunately he died about a year ago.
You would certainly be welcome at the Ft. this coming Saturday though
and I'm sure our participants would be interested in any equipment you
might want to exhibit and/or demonstrate. Most people will be out
operating out in the field in the morning but will have returned to
the Ft. by 11:30 or noon.
