True, but the output of the original 5 mhz oscillator was only about 600 to 800 mvpp. The output of even the 3.3V device should be more than adequate, in fact would need some attenuation.I did have it working with a 5 mhz injection from a DDS signal generator. ( with original oven removed)The progrock would be as good or better in the stability and accuracy dept. I thought it would be a good "science experiment" and was curious if anyone had given it a try.
Just for kicks, I monitored the 5 Mhz frequency from startup .I could see the change as the oven warmed up. it took a while to stabilize, too. The progrock wouldn't be nearly as drifty..
In time there will be very few good modules to keep these radios going, so I'm thinking out loud here about possible alternatives.

Hi Jim:
It may be that the stability/noise of the oscillator matters and if so then use of a programmable unit would not be a good choice. For really critical applications the oscillator drive level is important.

With the high fail rate of the frequency standard module, I was wondering if anyone has tried doing an upgrade. The original oven is a plug in assembly inside the module . I don't think it would be very difficult to stuff the can with a Oxco or better yet, a progrock module . Just add a regulator and LPF and done!
Anybody ? Jim, ac2eu
