[MRCA] Well, today started with a muffled thud.

The 654 don't use near the current people think it requires. in receive AM standby or transmitter switched off it's only a small amount of current. CW standby spins up the dyno but still you are under twenty amps. Don't care what the book says because people will come back and sight that but from what i know from actual use don't think the 659 will be an issue.
I ran a 654 as NCS at Hamvention just using an old car battery.
I have a 60A alternator on the mutt and between the two batteries on board have no issues running the GRC-106, VRC-12 and a URC-110
The bigger issue will be all the experts who will tell you about how those two radios were never paired in the field.
I installed a Coke bottle opener on the antenna piler on the mutt just for that reason on the mutt, just for all those experts who never heard of field exceedance.
I always carry several glass bottles of Coke in a Marmite Coller to demo the opener and share expect with all the experts out there.
Think long term, maybe the best thing in the WC would be a BC-312 and BC-191 being that will be a much more useful radio set up for long distance opps. but that's just my opinion.

No go on the 42 Dodge. It had to pick today to get grumpy. I’m working on it between raindrops. Memorial Day festivities are off the table.

After I sort things out with the WC, I am thinking of committing a bit of a sin in the WC (nothing illegal, or even a little bit dirty). I’m thinking of adding a second radio. I have a BC-659-B ( 10 meters ), and easy access to the radio connection box, and plenty of room. I already have a BC-654-A (75/80 meters) installed. Beside the close proximity of the antennas to one another, I am concerned about the amperage draw of the two radios. Both radios are set up for 12 volts, and the vehicle battery is heavy duty. Thoughts?
