PanAm established a resort at Rock Sound way back, hence the presence, thereof. My last time there was in maybe 1982. Pan AM had sold the property. Governor's Harbour was our destination. I miss those days... Nice route from PBI.

I recall that while passing through the Rock Sound Bahamas airport on Eleuthera back in the 90s, while waiting in line to clear customs, standing next to an ancient looking NDB transmitter which was actively banging away its callsign, which I recall at the time was RSD. Label plate on the transmitter said Property of Pan American Airways, probably was installed back in the 1930s when Pan Am initiated Clipper seaplane service to Rock Sound, one of their earliest destinations out of Miami. Apparently the Rock Sound NDB has gone dark, as there is no reference to it on the current Rock Sound Airport information online That airport’s designator is now MYER, some references list both MYER and RSD. Wouldn’t be surprised if the transmitter is still there though!

DDR bangs in here with very high SNR regularly about a half mine inland from the ocean in Stonington CT. Apparently a relatively high power beacon, high power is noted in a number of airways navigation on line references.
