I have a PRC-174 lurking under the work bench, not mine but one that I was given to repair. Been using the excuse of not doing anything with it due to lack of documentation but your email forced me to remember that I need to look at that one and after several searches downloaded the manual for it. There is something about that radio, never used one yet but once I resolve the issue with this one that was sent to me tend to try playing with it first. Somehow makes me think it wants to be a PRC-104 but looks like it may be way easier to work on then the 104
As far as field RTTY goes find it hard to beat simple laptop with Windows running MITTY, it’s a great use for all those old systems that wont run Windows 10. I have used my old Gateway running XP and MTTY and a simple interface that I built up with the 106 in FSK mode and the radio works great. The GRC-106 is biased different in FSK from SSB and develops more power in that mode, don’t know why but it dose.

Hi Ray - You really pegged the Cool Meter with that setup! I envy your design skills.....
I also took advantage of the BARTG RTTY event this weekend to smoke test my PRC-174 FrankenSystem. Absent any kind of military Terminal, I used a laptop running FLDIGI via a Signalink interface. Improvise, Adapt, Overcome....
The PRC-174 is new to me so I am exercising its capabilities. I worked a number of 170 cps shift RTTY stations this weekend and will get it going on mil RATT 850 cps shift protocol Clatternet on Saturdays at 2200Z, 7087 kc out west here.
This will be fun for remote camping (I do that to get away from "technology" hihi....)
Take a look here down towards the bottom for the RTTY setup: http://www.n6cc.com/prc-174-hf-manpack-radio-set/ Sorry, no video!
