I have to say that the RCT (RASC) still viewed it that way in the '70's 
and many preferred to send a DR than to use the radio to pass messages.

It was a real hoot to see the convoy going in the wrong direction (as 
part of it) when putting a radio vehicle at the front would have saved 
all that
