Yes those tubes like a full 1.4 volts or as close as you can get, otherwise they will stop oscillating.
You probably have something like 1.15 to 1.25v now.
Usually that's all that is needed to get it going.rather than a new one.

Good deal Rich - One thing I would test early is the receiver filament voltage. There are wire wound tapped resistors in the power supplies to adjust the 1.35 +/- 0.10 volts source; verify it is set properly under load. (receiver on...). see manual. Those 1L6's are expensive!

I found a 1L6, NIB NOS with JAN numbers on it for $30 on ebay. Thanks to Zorro who advised me to check on solid state replacements for the 1L6. I found a SS replacement but it was just about as expensive as a new one. Also picked up some SS replacements for 6X4 rectifier tubes. I need to get my 109 set out of the case and on the air.
