I should not mention this,  but I was actually in a unit that utilized a
TRC-1!  I was in the US Army as a signal battalion S-4 and stationed in
Europe. It was 1970.  Our Colonel found a TRC-1 which surprised me as I
owned the property book for quite awhile and never saw it listed
anywhere. I think it was obsolete then! We set it up and used it with
TRC-24 antennas for "A" band (50-100 MHz) and put in a shot from near
Frankfurt to the town of Bad Kreuznach, a path of just over 40 miles.
This was an awful long way to go and our TRC-24s would not do it, but
the old TRC-1 worked great with 4 channels. I think we had TTY rigged up
on two of the channels. All I remember was that it worked like a hose!
It was solid for the two weeks that we used it.  I get a warm and fuzzy
feeling every time I see a TRC-1 picture!
