Hi Jeep,

Several of us bought them when they were being sold "at cost" along with
the XPA-125 amplifier/auto-tuner, and have used them quite often on the
nightly 7296 net with good results.    That is normally with the
amplifier putting out 100-125 watts however when the band has been good
(which is along time ago!) we've been able to talk with just the radio
alone.

If you're around on Saturday mornings, give the MMRCG net a try at 10AM
Eastern on 7296 USB.   Or Wed. nights, the rolling 75 meter net starts
with the MRCA east coast group at 10PM on 3996 and works to the west on
the half hour.  The secret to low power operation is to maximize the
number of stations that have the potential to hear you, and nets are a
good way to do that.

The X-108 has a few quirks, one of which is audio noise resulting from
the mic preamp IC, which can be minimized by running the compression at
the minimum setting.     It's a shame that Xiegu has been so stubborn in
not providing service documentation or at least establishing a US-based
service facility, as the lack thereof has resulted in considerable
damage to their reputation. There is a Yahoo Group at
