[MRCA] removing riveted tube sockets

I have a dilemma where ii need to replace a defective tube socket, but the darnn thing is riveted in. 
Of coarse drilling it out will throw metal  shards everywhere, that's a no go.Has anyone tried punching the rivet out with a very small punch or might have any other method of doing this??
