I didn't have a problem decoding 170 shift with mine. Just leave it in 850Hz. Nothing wrong with using 850 to send, lots of people online talk about decoding 850 as all they have to do is move their mouse in fldigi.
But no, calling cq I never got an answer.
I was working on a laptop patch cord, thinking other modes would be useful but have not touched it since my rig went down.
I still think an arduino could be used to bypass md-522 altogether and convert lots of digital formats to and from teletype.
Greenkeys is dead. Fine for old information. I've seen lots of people doing this kind of work (teletype with arduino, cell phone, Bluetooth, etc) but they post all over the internet.
Usually they leave out key information because they are part of some other group (programmers, etc) and view it as too basic to talk about. Basically bragging about their toy not showing how to make one.
As for moding the md-522 I'm sure it's really not hard but I never looked into it. Maybe if it were invisible I may look into it. But I wouldn't want a switch on the outside like people have done with the usb receiver mods.

I am attempting to set up a RAT rig with my self-propelled GRC-106. I have a MD-522A modem and the UGC-74 TTY but the issue now is shift. The MD-522 just provides 850 Hz and 85 Hz frequency shift and from what I am told the Ham world is running 170 Hz shift. Anyone had any luck converting the MD-522 to 170 Hz? Or is there any activity still out there on 850 Hz?
Just posting this on MRCA knowing the people over on Milsurplus would rather talk about TTY in 1945 or argue about AC power supplies for BC-348 receivers, or maybe I am the one arguing about that or whatever. Did do an application for “Greenkeys” but not got anything back from them yet so thought I would ask here.
