Indeed. Thanks to all who fought from Normandy southward. But let's not
forget the Allied forces who had been fighting their way from north Africa
to Sicily and northward through Italy, capturing Rome on 4 June 1944. All
Allied forces then battled throughout 1944 until the surrender of German
forces in May 1945.
We owe them all our perpetual thanks and a promise never to forget their
sacrifices.

P.S. My future father-in-law was in the Engineers from north Africa through
Italy and my dad was in the 106th ID who were on the front lines in the
Ardennes on 16 Dec 1944.
