Hi Guys - That Homelite XLA/115/1/400 genny was used along with the GRC-109's by Special Forces and probably others. I have a photo on my website of a GRC-109 "inspection layout" at a Special Forces unit in the mid 1970's and that is the genny that is included. My S/F contact says that's the genny they routinely used. Second photo from the top: http://www.n6cc.com/angrc-109-special-forces-radio-set

It is pretty likely this genny was procured specifically for the GRC-109 or maybe also RS-6 sets, not "lighting" or PRC-47's (there is another 400 Hz genny for those). That's my theory...
I guess with the low duty cycle of the '47 on SSB you would not overload it (by a factor of 3+ on Hi Power) but I wouldn't do it running high power.

The UGP-12 400Hz 100 watt genny was also used with the GRC-109. The one I saw operating was VERY quiet while running. Purring is a good description.

Neat gear....

Since this is only a 100W generator, the PRC-47 could only be used on low power with it. 73 – Mike

Just looked at the data plate and see that it runs at four thousand RPM, that thing screams when its running! With the size of the muffler would have thought it would be quieter. What was the distance that it was intended to be placed away from the radio in field operations? And how common was it to use the generator instead of the battery pack?
