*Somewhere in the garage I have a BC-221-AH frequency meter that I modified
to be a VFO driver for the RT-3.The BC-221 has that really nice tuning cap
and dial assembly.The VFO circuit is a 6AC7 oscillator driving a 6AG7.I
included a crystal calibrator using the original 1 MC xtal, with a 6BE6.
It's tied to a "gimmick" on the RF output lead, and uses the original audio
xformer and phones jack to hear the beat note.AC power supply is a 5Y3 and
0D3, for 150VDC.I've never used it on-air because I'm not licensed for
HF.Pete*"
Hi Pete - Yep - that would be a neat setup - and about the right vintage
too....Smooth tuning - those things are real jewels!
I had modified a hacked-up T-21/ARC-5 transmitter to use as a VFO driving a
retuned CB set (Lafayette HE-90) to work on 10 meters AM back in the
1960's. That worked well too Worked into Europe regularly from the East
Coast with plate modulated AM and a 4 element yagi..good fun, learned a
lot....
I still have that T-21. Might try it on the RT-3, at least it's the right
color!
