[MRCA] ARC Type 12 "Packaging"

Hi, Tim,

While it was intended in jest, the postwar ARC equipment in civilian service
was most commonly used with a postwar civilian version of the RS-38. ARC
sold them as did a number of other companies for use in general aviation
aircraft and, in thinking back, I don’t recall many airplanes I flew that
didn’t have one. With that, I can’t see any reason an airplane owner might
not use a T-17 aside from not having CAA (FAA’s predecessor) certification.
OTOH, I carried two original RS-38s and a pair of HS-33s in my flight bag,
none of which was certified. Why two mics? Because I had them and didn’t
have any other use for them. :-)

I’m not sure what the military used but since they were buying the Type 12
equipment as COTS (commercial off the shelf) I wouldn’t doubt ARC managed to
sell them a few mics as well.

Ummm
the altimeter. Is it in truth an altimeter or is it one of the
gazillion instrument conversions to a clock?

Best regards,

Doh! Thanks Mike, I must have lost my head (and my RS-38 mic)......
I hang out here to learn this kind of stuff, so thanks for the input!

For shame! For shame! A T-17 mic attached to that rig? That should be a
postwar civilian (i.e., too many holes) RS-38. I thought everyone knew
that! ;-)

Nice Mobile! I apparently discovered ARC Type-12 gear late in my Ham career
but I'm glad I did. They are fun to play with and they sound great even if
it's only listening to aircraft or the occasional pre-arranged 2 meter Ham
AM contacts. (We play with Type 12's and MAW transceivers out here)
Here's my equivalent - easy to package for mobile, portable
mountain-topping, in the Shack or for display purposes...
