Gents:

A bit more detail on the wiring of Breck's (and my own) PRC-10 batt box: http://www.armyradio.com/arsc/customer/pages.php?pageurl=/publish/Articles/Power_Up/PRC-8.htm . Like Breck, I use dollar store batteries. Cheaper than the Italian PS but certainly less elegant.

I built a battery box that fits inside the PRC-10 battery box. The copper board in the center is just a piece of PC board that I cut squares in to provide tie points for the voltages.
I usually purchase batteries at the dollar store (check the date codes)and test each one for load using a 20 ma battery tester.

Pietro in Italy has been supplying stuff like this for a number of years, and I haven't heard any complaints.

However, for the way you're likely to use the radio, it might make more sense to stack up some 9-volt alkalines, and appropriate D and AA cells, and be done with it. I'll be amazed if you operate the set for more than 5 hours a year.

Fair radio still has appropriate connectors: https://www.fairradio.com/catalog.php?mode=viewitem&item=4952

I got a PRC-10, I'm wondering if anyone has a power supply for sale? I'm looking to power it with with something like gel cels. I think people call them DC-DC or inverter supplies.
