Each year at Gilbert several of us, including myself have had fun operating ARC-1, ARC-3, SCR-522 and URC-4 sets on 2 meters AM There is something to be said for the experience of operating vintage gear and the satisfaction of getting something up and running yourself, and the only legal use of this equipment today is on the Ham bands.

Or...perhaps they can't see the point of ham-hacking an authentic piece of military gear into something that, after modification, is *still* useless and is now very worthless to anyone who values the item for its military history.
That's only my guess, of course...I may be wrong. But I doubt that it is less accurate than the "too stupid to hook batteries together" theory. :-)
