Hi, Robert,

Good to see you haven't lost your fire.

I agree with you. Measuring that equipment by their "standards" *is* an
insult to the people who depended on them during the war. It did what it
was supposed to do under conditions far worse what they're in today. I'm
willing to bet that not one of the folks playing that game were in WW II so
don't have any sort of connection, as it were, with it. I wasn't but, at
the same time, I do hold a high level of respect for the equipment as well
as the folks who used them. The latter didn't have an opportunity to pick
and choose what they had to work with so even if the equipment wasn't
perfect - at least by today's standards - they used it and were glad to have
it.

Did they complain about it? Of course! In the service, one has only one
real right and that's to complain. Equipment, chow, balky weapons, weather,
officers ... everything is fair game for complaint. This has been true
since Caesar's time and probably well before. This does not detract from
the fact that all of those things (except maybe weather and officers) were
and are depended on day after day to do their jobs. They called the
equipment names best not repeated in the forum and probably still do today.

Come to think of it, I'd be worried about something that wasn't the subject
of a disparaging remark now and again.

Best regards,
